All-On-4 Dental Implants

All-on-4 dental implants, also known as implant-supported dentures, are an effective way to restore missing teeth on both your upper and lower arches.

All-On-4 Dental Implants from Keith + Associates

All-on-4 dental implants are an alternative to dentures or full mouth dental implants. This method requires only four implants per jaw, compared to traditional implants that require eight to ten implants per jaw. The all-on-4 technique reduces the need for bone grafting and the implants act just like natural teeth, making this procedure quicker, easier, and more comfortable for patients. Keith + Associates Dentistry is proud to offer expert level all-on-4 dental implants to Mission, KS and the surrounding communities.

All-On-4 Dental Implant Process

Dental implants involve several steps to complete the entire procedure. Each patient’s process will vary slightly depending on your oral health at the time, including if tooth extraction is required.

  1. Consultation and exam. Before deciding if all-on-4 dental implants are right for you we will complete a comprehensive exam. This exam will include x-rays to measure bone health, a digital scan of your teeth, and more. We will then discuss treatment options with you.
  2. Tooth extraction. If necessary, we will remove the teeth being replaced by the implants.
  3. Implant placement. The implants will be surgically placed in the bone and a healing cap is placed over the implant so the healing phase can begin.
  4. Implant healing. After your implants are placed, osseointegration begins. During this your jawbone heals around the dental implants, fusing with them. This healing period is critical. If we don’t allow enough time for your gums and bone to recover, the implants can’t provide a solid base for your new artificial teeth.
  5. Abutment / full arch placement. The abutment is the piece that the artificial teeth will be placed on. The abutment is attached to the implant, and then the artificial teeth are placed on the abutment.

All-On-4 Dental Implant Aftercare

Following the procedure, you will likely experience some of the typical discomforts associated with any oral surgery, including swelling of the gums and face, pain near the implant sites, and minor bleeding. These symptoms should gradually subside within a week.

  • Minor Bleeding. It’s common to have a small amount of blood in your saliva for a day or two after your procedure. If you are experiencing bleeding, bite on a moistened gauze pad for 30 minutes. If bleeding persists for more than a couple days, call our office at (913) 384-0044.
  • Swelling. To minimize swelling, place an ice pack on the cheek near the surgical area for 10 minutes, then remove the ice pack for 20 minutes and repeat.
  • Oral Hygiene. Properly caring for your implants will help them last a lifetime. Following the implant placement, it is important to be gentle when brushing near the surgical site. You should also have regular dental checkups for implant maintenance and wellness checks.
  • Pain Management. We will prescribe you pain medication following your surgery. You will likely want to take pain medication regularly for the first couple of days following your procedure. Any pain you experience should gradually subside over the first week following the procedure.

It is important to avoid spitting, sucking on straws, or smoking for at least a week following your surgery. This can dislodge the blood clot and slow the healing process. It is also important to stay hydrated and eat plenty of nourishing food to help you heal quicker. Eating can be challenging following the surgery which is why we recommend primarily eating soft foods for 4-6 months after surgery. We also recommend the use of PerioSciences AO Gel to help the gums heal.

All-On-4 Dental Implant FAQ

  • What foods can I eat after?

Once you have received your all-on-4 dental implants you will be able to eat anything you want. Since the implants act like real teeth, you will not have to restrict your diet at all!

  • Will I be without teeth?

No! We use modern technology to 3D print a set of temporary teeth for you! This means we can deliver them to you the same day or the day after your procedure. If there are any issues with your temporary teeth, we can also quickly and easily remake them without you having to come in for several additional appointments.

  • Do all-on-4 dental implants hurt?

You will be sedated during the actual procedure, ensuring that you feel no discomfort during the procedure. You may experience some aches and pain during the first week following the surgery, but we will prescribe pain meds to help you manage any pain.

  • How do I clean and care for my dental implants?

You will clean your dental implants the same way that you clean your real teeth, by brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day. We recommend the use of a water flosser such as the Waterpik to clean underneath your implants. We will also provide you with a night guard to ensure your implants don't get damaged in your sleep.
